Based in Staffordshire, Ward is a business with more than eighty years of experience in the scrap and recycling business. In recent years, it has experienced significant growth, with a number of new sites opening – including a deep sea export dock facility. With more than 350 employees and over seventy vehicles, Ward is a big business with an ever-growing supply of work.

DMA have worked closely with the General Manager of Ward’s Logistics and Waste division, recruiting a number of middle management positions – ranging from a Broker Manager and Fleet Manager to numerous other key positions for this growing area of the business. We have worked on a search fee and a contingent fee basis, dependent on the nature of the role. As one of our newer clients, we have worked intensively with Ward to understand their particular culture, how it is changing – and therefore the profiles of those candidates who will succeed within the business. In this sense, their culture is similar to DMA’s – and with our long experience in the UK’s service-led industries, we are perfectly placed to aid Aspray in finding exactly the right people to fulfil their customers’ rightly high expectations.

Aspray Logistics’ HR Director engaged with our MD, Charlie Beaumont, and tasked us with running a search to source an Operations Director and a Sales Director to sit on the business’s board. Our approach was simple: to shortlist at least two candidates per role, and to go to market with an open mind. We ran our process based on long lists, short lists and interviews, before selecting our preferred candidates. Thanks to this careful and detailed approach, DMA successfully filled both positions.

McPhee design and manufacture truck-mounted concrete mixer units. In operation since 1971, and dominant in their sector almost ever since, the business remains a family concern with a workforce of around eighty people. That means it has a tight-knit culture – and an excellent track record that it is both proud of and eager to maintain. McPhee engaged our MD, Charlie Beaumont, to source the company a Sales Director – a special challenge in addition to the usual sensitivity of such a search, since there are limited companies operating in the UK with relevant experience: perhaps six at most! McPhee were open to looking outside the industry, however, and with our trademark creativity, we spread our client target list outside their immediate sector. We built a long list of clients and ran through our rigorous process before submitting three very strong potential candidates. Ultimately, McPhee hired from their competitor – and we were on hand to manage the challenges that this created. Throughout, we stayed very close to the successful candidate, keeping them as informed as our client – and they remain in post today.

For Cinram Novum, we have placed Operational, Sales and Commercial Positions, plus Fleet and Manufacturing staff. With a forty-year history, and now a fulfilment and distribution provider with truly international reach, Cinram Novum is only ever in greater and greater need of high quality people. Initially, DMA our focused on recruiting UK-based specialists for the business. Over time, however, our success was recognised to the extent that our brief was expanded to European Management and Professional appointments.
